hello again dear kids smoke thank you for joining me mine pastor Visser of the covenant peoples ministry and if you were with me for part four in our examination on Paul's letter to the Galatians we left off in chapter 2 verse 19 where Paul says I through the law am dead to belong that I might live unto God now it would seem as looking at that one statement that Paul is basically saying we must not do the will of God through his law in order to truly live under Christ and we went to Roman's and we went to first Corinthians and proof that what Paul is teaching in relation to the Mosaic law here is the application that is how we go about when we mess up and when we sin thus we left off in verse 19 and we'll pick it back up at the end of chapter 2 but verse 20 where Paul says I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not i but Christ lives within me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me who Jesus Christ now Paul puts every bit of emphasis that he can upon the blood of Christ the grace that was bestowed through his sacrifice and he teaches this right here in Galatians for example in chapter 5 verse 24 Paul says they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts thereof so part of becoming a new creature in Christ through that grace that is given us is putting away or killing off the old man now Paul most assuredly did that and Paul like so many other we'll learn from experience and he'll write within his epistles here this is exactly what he says in Chapter six here towards the conclusion in the final chapter of Galatians he says in verse 14 God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ by whom the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world notice Paul is saying that once you begin to walk in the spirit or live in Christ you put away the things of the world and Paul would most assuredly know that because it was he who taught when he was a child he fought as a child he believed as a child but when he became an adult he put away childish things so I want you to consider a few other statements that Paul makes on this theme dying to the world and living for Christ for example consider Ephesians chapter 5 right at the beginning Paul says be therefore followers of God as dear children and walk in love as Christ also has loved us and have given himself for an offering and a sacrifice unto God for a sweet-smelling savour now I really want to stress this point under the Mosaic law the Israelite man woman or child offender was unsure if they went through the rigmarole of the burnt offering sacrifices for sin atoned but Christ here clearly gave his life a ransom for all Israelites and Gentiles and it was acceptable it was a sweet savory and a sweet smelling savor unto Yahweh God what does that mean that means that Yahweh God was never satisfied with Senate only under the Mosaic law now another thing I want you to consider on this team is found in Colossians Paul writes about dying to the world and this is not far removed from our own Gospels because friendship with the world is enmity towards God so if we come in and claim to love the world then we hate Yahweh God that is a given so what do we learn well in Colossians chapter 3 right at the beginning once more he says if you even be risen with Christ that's the context if you're risen if you're renewed in Christ remember in Galatians he says that I am crucified with Christ I died to the world and in so many ways each and every one of us need to do the same thing he says if ye be then risen with Christ seek those things which are above where Christ sits on the right hand of God set your affection on things above not upon things of this earth why well Christ clearly taught it that here on earth everything is corruptible everything will disintegrate through time that were to lay up treasure in heaven where moth and rust does not corrupt where thieves can't break through and steal Paul continues in Colossians chapter 3 but verse 3 he says for if you are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God when Christ who is our life shall appear then shall ye also appear with him in glory and that most assuredly is something that I have tried to stress from this very pulpit countless times and that is technically that there is no you and I not when we live in Christ and walk in the spirit there's really only the will of God and thy will be done which is what Christ clearly taught on earth as it is in heaven so Paul says he is crucified with Christ but Christ lives within him now out there we have an enemy to continue it they come in with multimedia there are so many facets of it basically they deny Yahweh God on so many levels but you truly will not live that is unless Christ lives through and within you what good is a life spent in front of a television swilling beer getting drunk and watching sports when at the end of the day that's what you're judged according to we did not seem a better usage of your time to beat the hungry and clothe the naked well that should be common sense and this is why Paul concludes chapter 2 by saying I do not frustrate the grace of God for if righteousness came by the law then Christ is dead in vain I want you to consider that statement because it's very damning in many ways but Paul launches into a tirade against the application of the law or the works of the law after this point in Chapter three but notice why then would Christ even have to come and die and fulfill all of these Messianic prophecies spoken by David in Psalms and I said Jeremiah major and minor prophet alike if the law was perfect to begin with notice that the conclusion of chapter 2 Paul is appealing to man's man's intellect common-sense if the law was to be all end all and it was perfect when and in of and of itself why would Christ have to come well that sets the theme for chapter 3 and what pose about to go into because he begins chapter 3 verse 1 by saying Oh foolish Galatians who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth before who I Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth crucified among you some manuscripts put clearly clearly instead of evidently here but notice chapter 3 begins with another review against the Galatians Paul says that their foolish and he already provided partly explanation to this in Chapter 1 he says I marvel that the Galatians are so soon removed from the gospel that I taught them don't is something that isn't even a gospel and to someone who isn't even a messiah so o foolish Galatians who has bewitched you sorcery witchcraft that comes into play does it not we find it in today's modern current era so many ways you can barely turn on the television without seeing twenty to thirty commercial selling synthetic drugs but notice they weren't bewitched and that is something I want you to recognize cognitive dissidence the will of the people oftentimes isn't what's correct and christ-like reflected back when he was being crucified when he came into Jerusalem they said Hosanna Hosanna in the highest they laid down palm leaves our people the Israelites they said for ep2 the Messiah the Redeemer and three days later they were shouting out crucify him crucify him nope remember when I took you to the book of Acts part of Paul's commission from the mouth of Christ was that he would go forth and experience many sufferings Paul's life wasn't a bed of roses everywhere he went he was met with persecution and in many instances rightfully so because he once persecuted the Christians he says you're foolish because you're bewitched and then he says o foolish Galatians who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth before who eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently or clearly set forth meaning they were roundabout these people in Galatia who ultimately went on to be the gulls round about that land and knew of the narrative they knew that Christ was crucified so was his deafened bein as he asked at the end of chapter two he said he doesn't frustrate the grace of God thus there must be a frustration of that grace if we go back to the law notice he says this only would I learn of you received ye the spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith simple question and a fair question in my estimation do you learn or receive that Holy Spirit because you follow the law or because you have faith the obvious answer is that's obtained through faith because faith leads to action and oftentimes in the case of the Israelite the Holy Spirit is imparted at the act of baptism that is if we are obedient and are fully immersed but Paul says this I would want to learn of you if I were to have a question how do you receive the spirit by the works of the law or by faith now this is important turn with me to Romans chapter 10 Paul teaches over here in Romans chapter 10 but beginning in verse 14 how then shall they all call on him in whom they have not believed how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard how shall they hear though without a preacher then he says and how shall they preach except they be set is it written how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things but they have not all obeyed the gospel why verse 16 in Romans chapter 10 for Isaiah says Lord who has believed our report that's the beginning of Isaiah chapter 53 and it's a simple question the majority doesn't believe the report especially in today's society when they come in and they try to justify the miracles of Christ Paul and Peter but this is important because Paul then says in verse 17 so then faith comes by hearing something right there that is the importance of hearing preaching faith comes by hearing that is the importance of having fellowship and not neglecting the Brotherhood why they comes by hearing but we're also told in the New Testament to quench not the Spirit and to believe not every spirit so if faith comes by hearing that is sound doctrine then unbelief and a lack of faith comes by hearing unsound doctrine just like Peter was doing and Paul had to rebuke him to his face we're going back to the law on some of the most trivial things like circumcision now there's no dispute that were not to kill we're not to steal we're not to covet because though that is so mall of God Paul says in verse 17 back in Romans chapter 10 faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God but I say had they not heard yes verily their sound went into all the earth and their words and to the ends of the world or the ends of the ages this was fulfilled not only in Paul but also Peter Jude and John and many other New Testament authors because the Word of God truly will not return void and it has been dispersed around the world and truly in this era there are probably very few people that have not heard the name of Jesus Christ which is another sign that we're right before the dawn of the third and final Earth Age but this question is so important he says where did you receive the spirit and then back in Galatians chapter 3 firstly are ye so foolish having begun in the spirit are he now made perfect by the flesh and that if you will is why spend so much time trying to differentiate out the Old Covenant or Testament and the New Covenant and the New Testament one deals with the works of the flesh for sinful men if we begin in the spirit through faith like Paul is talking about right here then you don't go back to the flesh this obviously though denotes oftentimes that it can work the other way that you can be did in Judaism the works of the flesh the law or the Mosaic penitent and then we set free in the spirit so where does that come from your Liberty the grace that you have every breath that is given you is it because you're so special it's God looking down saying well brother so-and-so he's not eating shellfish to get timing to prolong his days or is it because of grace unmerited favor so don't misconstrue what I'm saying this is not a license to go out and sin Paul is not saying that Paul is asking in context where do you obtain the spirit the proper spirit not the spirit of the world for the spirit of Antichrist where do you obtain that through faith not through the works of the law he says are you foolish that you're going to go back to this he reiterates this in chapter 4 verse 9 he says but now after that you have known God or rather are known of God how turn ye again to the weak of beggarly elements whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage why is that important because you're guilty of the entire law if you violate the law and truthfully no man is going to go through life without breaking the law it's impossible only Christ of Jay obtained that so are you foolish if you begin in the spirit to go back so obviously there is a difference the Pentateuch dealt with the flesh the New Testament the new company deals with the spirit that is why Paul would command walk in the spirit and refuse the lust of the flesh so verse four back in Galatians chapter 3 have you suffered so many things in vain if it be yet in vain he therefore that ministered to you in the spirit and works miracles among you does he do it by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith second question in Chapter three to the Galatians so what do we obtain the ministering of the Spirit is that imparted through your adherence to the law no but that is imparted to the faithful because Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8 clearly says you're saved by grace through faith not just grace alone Grace has given you based on how much thank you have so you're more so saved by faith than works and this is what James would teach faith without works is dead another questions Paul puts forth he says even as abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness now this would seem out of place if you want to split hairs on who the Galatians or the Gauls are but most assuredly they're Gentile nation now Abraham was the father of Isaac who ultimately begot Jacob who became Israel the man again here is teaching in a spiritual sense but he's talking about the Abrahamic covenant he already said in Chapter one that Yahweh was the father of the Galatians okay right here he says even as abraham believed God faith this was accounted unto him for righteousness when before the law was even given Abraham please God how today now Hebrews chapter 11 has an entire chapter dealt with great examples of faith that go through every one of these patriarchs and a few women as well as great examples of faith not obedient to the law and that's what he's bringing forth so we're at this time turn with me to Genesis chapter 15 in Genesis chapter 15 we learned in verse 6 abraham believed in yahweh and he counted it to him who God who righteousness just that simple act of belief and that is why Paul would contend so many times for the simplicity that is in Christ or Christ's word because it truly is simple and it truly does require faith our faith overcomes the world not your adherence to the law now wrong so you know following the law that's important no one's discounting that but Paul like Christ would in many instances is using it to contrast the difference where did you obtain to get to the Holy Spirit that wasn't earned through the law you earn that through grace by faith so faith is more important the greatest of these is charity but faith is not far below that so that is confirmed in Genesis chapter 15 but Paul continues speaking on the Abrahamic covenant they caused attention why because abraham believed safe that is why the covenant was made in ultimately you and i today the sons of Jacob are not consumed still to this day not because you're great you follow the law right you but because of a promise made Abraham and the plains of Mamre through his obedience so he says in verse 7 know ye therefore that they which are of faith the same are the children of Abraham that's a spiritual teaching they that believe or they that are a faith are the children of Abraham now you can sit and say I'm Abraham seed in fact that should tell familiar turn with me to the Gospel according to John but chapter a we've covered this but I want you to consider this in light of a statement Paul makes here when Christ rebukes the Jewish Pharisees in st. John's Gospel chapter 8 they they say he says in verse 37 I know that you're Abraham's seed but you seek to kill me because my word has no place within you spoken to the Jews by Yahshua I speak that which I have seen with my father and you do that which you have seen of your own father they answer to the Jews and said Abraham is our Father but jesus said unto them if you were Abraham's children you would do the deeds of Abraham have you ever considered that honestly in light of what's being taught right here because that requires discernment Christ was using discernment he didn't come in and say you know what yeah you're Abraham's seed he agreed with that okay but he didn't when it came down to it he said if you're Abraham's seed you would do what Abraham did wedding Abraham face now this is important because Abraham in the Genesis account how to dealing with one known as Melchizedek no Melchizedek as a word means king of Salem or Prince of Peace because Salem means peace and in this book of Galatians Paul goes in to the differences of the Levitical priesthood versus the Melchizedek Priesthood now part of that promise was because of obedience today and it took faith on the part of father Abraham to drop to his knees and to give no cause it took a time than a portion of the Spoils back in the book of Genesis now we're going to cover that in detail when we get to it but notice right here in his letter to the Gentiles he begins discussing the Abrahamic covenant he says know ye therefore which are up faith the same other children of Abraham the same thing Christ told the Jews if you were truly the children of Abraham you would do the works of Abraham moving on in verse 8 Paul says back in Galatians chapter 3 and the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith preached before the gospel unto Abraham saying in thee shall all nations be blessed now that's part of the Abrahamic covenant and you would think for a minute that we NCI and even Peter the Apostle would understand that if the promise that was made to Abraham Isaac and Jacob ultimately all Israelites which is part of the law by the way if part of that promise or covenant was that all the nations of the earth would be blessed that meant the Gentiles way back then so why then would anyone resist them why would Peter how come they don't understand that why because of one fear of the Jews number two the peer pressure or the pressures of the world and number three because they choose to everything is a choice in life and everything has a consequence we're judged according to not every idle teen or every boo-boo at the law but every thought much stricter judgment under the New Covenant but the new coven is spiritually applied whereas the Old Covenant was physically applied thus right here he says indeed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed you should be familiar with this skip with me back to Genesis chapter 12 here we learn Yahweh God speaking Yahweh had said unto Abraham this is verse 1 get me out of thy country and from thy kindred and from thy father's house into a land that I will show thee and I will make of thee a great nation and I will bless thee make thy name great and thou shalt be a blessing and I will bless them that bless thee curse them that curse thee and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed just like Paul's terminology all flesh one of the promises made Abraham is that his descendants would be a blessing to all on the face of the earth and truly there's only one group of people that have been up since the dawn of time why because they are endued with the gift of the Holy Spirit so the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith preached before the gospel you should be familiar with this turn with me to Genesis however this time chapter 18 what do we learn in verse 18 seeing that Abraham surely shall become a great and mighty nation and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him or through him now Abraham has truly achieved that goal and in many ways the descendants of Abraham still do we still go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and we still go to the Gentiles that are dispersed abroad who James wrote his epistle to and so this is kind of important when you think about we tend to think well Gentile has nothing to do with the law or the Abrahamic covenant so much so that even Peter believed this one but why then would Paul start referencing the Abrahamic covenant that in butter Abraham all on the face of the earth would be blessed well the answer provided if you keep reading he says in verse 9 so then they which be of faith are blessed with or alongside faithful Abraham some manuscripts say believing angry because after all at the end of the day that's what was attributed to Abraham for righteousness this belief is you or are you a believer in an unbelieving world what's no different at the time of a learning notice I took you earlier to the Covenant being made and part of that covenant that Yahweh God made with other Abraham let's get out of your own country get away from your own kinsmen and then I'll make of you a great and mighty nation and all the families of the earth will be blessed within you now obviously what's not being said here but is proven by the text is the fact that the Gentiles are fulfilled of the Abrahamic covenant he says it right here so then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham for as many or is under the works of the law or under a curse why for it is written cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in this book of the law and not do this where's that written well both for bīt-yakin and Deuteronomy and time won't allow me today but notice as I have said often times there's much liberty and grace within ignorance but once you're made accountable which is exactly what the law does it tells you what is right what is wrong then you're either responsible for the blood of Christ if you go out and willfully sin against him or you can repent but only through that blood and only if you're found acceptable in the eyes of Christ whereas many are under the works of the law well you're under a curse technically because if you profess to live by the law and to be justified by the works of the law that you're responsible for the entirety of the law now perhaps I'm getting a little deep here but basically Paul is not saying the law stood away with so far in three chapters at least every instance of his usage of the word law deals with statutes blood rituals something to do with an ordinance that was ultimately fulfilled in Christ not nailed to the cross but fulfilled because his sacrifice was a sweet savory smell unto Yahweh's nostrils from having not the Turtledove or the calf or the bullet Paul continues in verse 11 he says no man is justified by the law in the sight of God it is evident for the just shall live by faith where is that that's done in Habbakuk and I taught it many years ago and maybe someday I'll revisit it but it also is an Old Testament teaching and so did Paul bring a new way not really he's teaching here have a cook and I'm going to prove that before we actually move on turn with me to the minor prophet Habbakuk and we're going to examine chapter 2 and by the way you may have noticed that we've been live streaming quite a bit lately part of that is because we're playing catch-up and backfilling empty time slots once we went to Euro folk radio to full time in October of 2016 we basically almost abandoned The Sunday Times line until as a result there's about 20 empty slots that were jumping different Paul says in Galatians chapter 3 verse 11 the just shall live by faith that is a quote found in Habakkuk chapter 2 because we learned in verse 4 behold his soul which is lifted up is not upright within him but the just shall live by his face so Paul almost verbatim provides a quote from the minor prophet Habakkuk and a quote that the Pharisees would have confessed or professed to at least been familiar with but just live by safe that means obviously then the unjust lived by the law now that doesn't mean that the unjust people all because to Justin the righteous keep the law they keep his Commandments and they honor the name of Yahweh God that's confirmed in the book of Revelation but this teaching is important and it's so important that even Paul reiterates it you don't believe me turn with me to Romans in Romans chapter 1 right at the very beginning Paul confirms to Rome to the Romans who also were of the Gentile band verse 17 for therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith as it is written the just shall live by faith Christ clearly said that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God and so when you consider these statements that Paul makes it would appear that he's basically saying you're not justified by the law they're only justified through Christ for example remember I said Hebrews chapter 11 gives you examples great examples of faith consider a statement in Hebrews chapter 10 but verse 38 what do we learn now the just shall live by faith but if any man draws back my soul Yahweh speaking will have no pleasure within so it's important to run the race until its completion it's also important to while we're running that race to win it to contend for the thing because the majority won't they'll come in and they'll follow easy believe ism or churchianity the traditions of the elders but not the word the just live by faith and you can truly live through faith if your faith overcomes the world then obviously our faith will lead us out of trials tribulations and perhaps more importantly temptations so back in Galatians chapter 3 verse 12 Paul says the law is not a faith but the man that does them shall live with him that's Leviticus chapter 18 right at the giving of the law but turn with me over there and I'll prove this Leviticus chapter 18 but verse 5 Yahweh God says you shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments which if a man do he shall live in them I am Yahweh now some manuscripts render this as dust you shall therefore keep my statutes and do my judgments which if a man does he shall live by them not in them and so if you look up the etymology of that word you'll see what I'm saying is true but if you break the law you're guilty of the whole law so at the end of the day it's better off to be under the grace of Christ to be found acceptable in his eyes and to try to bank your salvation on the Mosaic law because in part when you go back to the blood of lambs and turtle doves and pigeons and calves and Bullock's and goats you're denying Christ's work on Calvary and in that regard that makes us an antichrist tall dealt with many of those consider this in closing Romans chapter 10 in Romans chapter 10 Paul says something extremely similar once more Romans chapter 10 verse 9 there Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law that the man which does those things shall live within them and truthfully they really have no other choice so at the end of the day you're better off with grace because that's earned through faith and faith overcomes the world and can get you through any obstacle faith as an emotion or a feeling is meant to lead you to works so by default and obligatory you should clothe the naked and feed the hungry and support ministries such as this one if you're able to I mean in that regard I truly want to thank the men women and children that make my preaching possible to a whole nother generation and I'd like to thank you for joining me every Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 12 noon
