    Who Are The Pastors?

    Who Are The Pastors? Part I
    by Pastor Tex Echols (CPM-CJCC, Ark.)

    What is Yahweh’s Will for His teachers? How can we know who is a genuine preacher? We know God promises “I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding” (Jer. 3:15) but what is His MANDATE for those same pastors He raises?

    The answers are given to us by the Apostle Paul;

    1Ti 3:2-3; "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous."

    The term “bishop” here means LEADER or pastor; this is why it's the top office in Paul’s list. God’s Will is that His teachers must be BLAMELESS. That’s not to say the world will ONLY speak well of him, but it will generally speak well of him because; “When a man's ways please Yahweh, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him” (Proverbs 16:7).

    God’s pastors are wiser than serpents and exhibit good behavior at all times. Behavior, that is, within the eternal Law of Yahweh. They don’t pick random fights and are essentially peaceable men. Notice that Paul places great importance on “apt to teach” meaning a genuine pastor doesn’t violate the Law (through gossip or name-dropping) but rather is able to shed new light on scriptural truths? What good is calling yourself a pastor when you can’t teach nor preach? This is nothing special, it’s required of ALL men - preach in season and out of season!

    Furthermore, they can have only ONE wife, which was God’s Will in the beginning (Mat. 19:8). In addition to having a single bride and being wise in sobriety, they must also have natural born children by their spouse;

    1Ti 3:4-5; "One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)."

    The measure of a man’s family begins with the parents which is why a pastor must have his children in SUBJECTION, or obedience. This is a precursor to handling the flock of God and if a man’s house is not in order he should cease preaching until it is. There are far too numerous scriptures regarding child rearing in the Bible, but ALL of them point towards raising them up in Christ so they won't depart from Him in maturity. Praise Yahweh if you've raised FAITHFUL sons and daughters!

    Tit 1:6-7; "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre."

    Understand what’s being said here. Paul clearly says a pastor’s children must NOT be accused of rebellious acts. Pastors are held to a higher standard thus if their children are rebellious to the ways of Yahweh, their father can NEVER successfully tend to the flock of Yahweh. If a man commits a lewd act towards a child Jesus says there is special damnation (Matthew 18:6) but if the allegations made are untrue – he still CANNOT preach!

    Notice also that God’s pastors are not self-serving? They do not seek to make a name for themselves nor defame others but seek to do ALL things for the advancement of the Kingdom. Pastors may get angry, but are not angry men. Pastors may sometimes drink (1Ti. 5:23) but are never drunks.

    Naturally, Yahweh in His grace allows variations of these requirements, but overall – it’s the main goal.

    Hail Victory!

    Re: Who Are The Pastors?

    The above - mentioned is advice of Apostle Paul, which describes the ideal pastor. In reality pastors are bishops of Lord Jesus Christ, ordained either by Lord Jesus Christ himself or by Christian churches to order, tend to and lead Lord Jesus Christ's sheep, and as such are sons of God. Some pastors are married and live their lives as men, some are unmarried and live their lives as angels of mercy or angels of justice. It is necessary to define who are not pastors they pretend to be, but rather ravening wolves in sheep clothing.

    Pastors are not those who committed sexual perversions (homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, incest, pedophilia (sexual relations with girls below 12 years of age)), abominations (child murders (abortions), change of gender, cannibalism, human cloning), intentional murder, enslavement of men/women or selling of men/women to slavery. Such are profane beasts by their own deeds, called dogs and hogs in the Bible, and should be killed without a hand.

    Pastors are not those furthermore who committed repeated adultery (sex with other man's wife), or divorced their wives, and married another woman, but for the cause of adultery, or repeatedly purchase sex of a whore(s) or are paid for prostitution and participating in screening of pornography. Such, called goats in the Bible, must be exposed and abandoned by the Lord Jesus Christ's sheep.

    In all other deeds, including theft, sex with women or teen-age girls, etc pastors give account to Lord Jesus Christ, and are not supposed to be judged by the sheep of the Lord Jesus Christ, for such their deeds simply reflect the general filthiness and immorality of the flock they order. Their deeds however should be exposed, they should be called to repentance, and if they repent not and stop not their sinful behavior, the sheep of the Lord Jesus Christ is free to abandon them, if they so wish.

    Finally accusations against pastors supported by two or more credible witnesses should be investigated, and if true acted upon, but the accusations themselves should not necessarily lead to abandoning of pastorship by the accused. The unnecessary care for reputation in the eyes of men, so characteristic of modern society is biblically illegitimate. Men of God, including pastors, should care to please God by following God's commandments, rather than caring for what men speak of them: for boldness before men is meekness before God.

    That's a good question.

    No, it is not so. Even thou it is desirable to fulfill the commandment of God (Genesis 1:28, Genesis 9:1)

    The words of Apostle Paul, unless referred as Word of God, by the introduction Lord Jesus Christ said, or God said, are words of a man, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and should be treated as advice of a brother in Christ, even though carrying weight since uttered by the Apostle of Christ.

    The specifics of who can be a pastor depends on the specific judgements of Christian churches. Some churches wrote for themselves that only celibate men become bishops (pastors). This is illegitimate, but the statutes of old should also be honored. So if the church of old required celibacy, the celibate men should be given preference to become bishops if such are found. However, if there are no such celibate men, married men corresponding to Apostle Paul advice should be selected for pastorship, as close to Apostle Paul description of ideal pastor as possible. Thus in such a case married men with children, if not artificially conceived, should be preferred to a married man without children.

    Finally on some men Lord Jesus Christ himself bestows pastorship by laying of hands and/or anointing with oil in his infinite wisdom. Such should be admitted to pastorship of a church by acclamation, for their authority proceeds directly from Lord Jesus Christ. On such pastorship is bestowed by a man of God sooner or later, to acknowledge in the eyes of men what God has prior established.

    Re: Who Are The Pastors?

    We live in a world where many evil abominations are lifted up and worshipped. As the bible says – we need to redeem the time for the days are evil. The following verses explain how Christians are supposed to walk in light and overcome darkness. Now, especially, we need pastors who are within the heart of God because there are innumerable false preachers seeking to mislead the masses and sin is a market in itself. Many men today are praised for their evil deeds while the speakers of truth are ridiculed and the Godly man is dwindling before our very eyes. Pray for one another and pray for your pastors. Noah was a preacher of righteousness and pure in his generations - this is why he was saved . . . be sure you are seeking out preachers of righteousness.

    Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
    Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
    Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
    Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
    Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

    Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
    Eph 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
    Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
    Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
    Eph 5:10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
    Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
    Eph 5:12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
    Eph 5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
    Eph 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
    Eph 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
    Eph 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
    Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
    Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
    Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
    Eph 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

    2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
    2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
    2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
    2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    Psa 12:1 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
    Psa 12:2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
    Psa 12:3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
    Psa 12:4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
    Psa 12:5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
    Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
    Psa 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
    Psa 12:8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

    2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
    2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
    2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
    2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
    2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

    Here's a quote from the thread Who is a Christian priest? that pretty much explains it - "A Christian priest is normally expected to marry and have children, and can take only a virgin daughter of his people as a wife, preferably first-born. In the situation where female promiscuity and general uncleanness leave no suitable bride for a Christian priest, a Christian priest may take as a wife a Christian priest’s widow, otherwise a Christian priest is not supposed to marry."

    The reason Yahweh gives is these requirements is because the practices of marriage and child-rearing will better equip the pastors to handle the flock of God. For example, having a wife helps deal with "idle chatter" in churches and having children prepares the preacher for the many tantrums that go with his career choice.

    I mentioned in the article that “His grace allows variations of these requirements” but they’re there so we can discover the overall Will of God. Paul says in some places we shouldn’t get married while in others he mentions “it’s better to marry than burn.” It’s really on a person-by-person basis yet if we find NUMEROUS violations of these same requirements (on the part of our teachers) they should be suspect.

    Thanks for asking! I’m working on a second part to this article as we speak and hope to have it released in a matter of days.

    Re: Who Are The Pastors?

    I'm bumping this because it is a very important issue especially within DSCI. We have so many who claim to be Pastors, Elders, or anyone that holds themselves as a higher up in a Church that aren't qualified Biblical Standards.

    1 Timothy 3:1-7

    1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

    2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

    3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

    4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

    5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

    6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

    7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

    What this says is simple. If these verses disqualify you then you can't do it. Simple as that.

    Re: Who Are The Pastors?

    Second Witness to 1 Timothy that disqualify's men who don't have a wife, kids, blameless, etc to be a Pastor, elder, or hold a high position in a Church...

    Titus 1:5-16

    5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

    6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

    7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

    8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

    9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

    10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

    11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

    12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

    13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

    14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

    15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

    16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
