What is your position on the idea that the Watchers spoken of in Genesis were angels who literally interbred with human females and created a race of giants? Or, alternatively, that the giants were a separate, Cainite race? Genesis 6:4.

Here's what Ellicott says: "Heb., Nephilim, mentioned again in Numbers 13:33, and apparently a race of great physical strength and stature. Nothing is more probable than that, at a time when men lived for centuries, human vigour should also show itself in producing not merely individuals, but a race of more than ordinary height. They were apparently of the Cainite stock, and the text carefully distinguishes them from the offspring of the mixed marriages. The usual derivation of the name is from a root signifying to fall; but Lenormant (Origines de l’Histoire, p. 344) prefers pâlâ, which means “to be wonderful,” and compares the Assyrian naptû, “unique in size,” often found in the cuneiform inscriptions as the denomination of an ogre."

That would make Ellicott, not general recognized as DSCI, really one of us. He's saying that the giants were Cainites, i.e, descended from Cain, and a separate race; NOT the Nephilim. So there were two distinct rebellions of angels, the one Lucifer led that took a third of them, and then a later one of the watchers, who interbred with human females, implicitly, against their orders to just watch. And Ellicott says then that the Cainite giants were a separate lineage than the race of Adam, as well; so the giantism was from the Serpent, obviously manifested itself in adulthood, and slowly disappeared through dilution in successive generations. What do ya'll think, any studying been done in this area, or thoughts?

Great question. I think theres a few possible answers to this question. First, maybe different angelic DNA reacts differently to human woman. Some create giants, such as goliath while others are a normal height. We see Satan's seed are not giants. Second, maybe the first few generations of giants were very tall, then over time they get shorter in order to easier blend into the regular populations.

Second, maybe the first few generations of giants were very tall, then over time they get shorter in order to easier blend into the regular populations.
