Wisdom and Understanding

In these trying times it is important to pray that God will grant us wisdom and understanding that we may see the light of life and truth amidst the woes of this world as we travel into the darkest hour. Proverbs 2 & 8 does a beautiful job of explaining that wisdom and understanding existed in the beginning with God and that her voice cries out to the sons of man for all time. Therefor we should pray that God impart us with wisdom and understanding that we may know that every word of God is true and only his truth can make us free from the bondage of this world.

The Benefits of Wisdom Proverbs 2

1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

The Excellence of Wisdom Proverbs 8.1-36

1Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

5O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

We know that Solomon was known as one of the wisest men to ever live - I think that we can see from scripture that this was because Solomon prayed for God to fill his heart with wisdom - he was not born with the knowledge which God bestowed on him but God imparted wisdom and understanding unto him when Solomon asked for such. Also, notice in proverbs that each of us should be crying out to God to impart us with wisdom and understanding.The following places in scripture show that all things consist by God's will and we must strive to understand his reason and purpose for his people:


Solomon Prays for Wisdom

(1 Kings 3:6-9)

7In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like. 13Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.



Solomon's Wisdom 1 kings 4. 29-34

29And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 30And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. 32And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. 33And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. 34And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.



What is interesting to me is that people recognized the wisdom of Solomon. The Kings and Queens traveled far and wide to get a chance to hear something spoken from the mouth of wisest King Solomon yet God can speak to us and through us if we ask him to guide us and fill us with his words of wisdom. Ask God to fill you this day with wisdom and understanding.

I had to swallow deeply with eyes wide open reading this.
That is something hard to chew on for me.
I know Solomon had strange wifes, too, and they misled him.
I still love my latina ex-wife and our offspring I have to admit. :-(

I just wished she'd had a real change of heart and mind and could join YHWHs ranks with "Isaiah 56" premise...that would be mind-blowing...


And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord
to minister to him,
to love the name of the Lord,
and to be his servants,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
and who hold fast to my covenant—
these I will bring to my holy mountain
and give them joy in my house of prayer.

Life is cruel sometimes.

James 3 - True Wisdom is from Above but the wisdom of the world is foolish envying and strife:
13Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

The Value of Wisdom Ecclesiastes 7

1A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
2It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
3Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
4The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
7Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
8Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
9Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
10Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
11Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.

Limits of Human Wisdom
15All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness. 16Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? 17Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? 18It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
19Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city. 20For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. 21Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee: 22For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
23All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me. 24That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out? 25I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness: 26And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

Surely God is Good to Israel

3For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

4For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

5They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

6Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

7Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

8They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

9They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

10Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

I have been thinking on this psalm and really bringing it to heart and soul lately. I pray some of you will be comforted in reading this.

Here are some verses which I think are important because they help us to remember what is most important in trying to follow a Christian path with understanding of what is key in serving Christ. To love others as ourselves and seek love, joy, and peace through the Eternal Lord – the one True God. Keeping the Spirit of Unity and Faith alive and present through our daily efforts to serve one another and depart from evil.


“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

Okay, I'm immediately stepping off into the tall grass, here, I know. I'm brand new to this forum. And, I'm not a female. But, as luck would have it, my wife is, and she brought this issue to my attention.

I'm familiar with Isaiah 56 and how it is used to excuse letting mamzers in. I'm more of a Deuteronomy 23:2 kind of CI, myself. Mixed race persons are not allowed to come in for ten generations, which means you would have to find ten other families over a ten generation period likewise willing to pollute their own bloodlines for ten generations, in other words, like the parable of a camel going through the eye of a needle: it's not going to happen.

I believe, like Phineas, that racial treason is something one does not come back from. Yes, life is cruel sometimes. So is our Lord. Justice can be considered cruel, to the transgressors. But, race traitors have to be written off. So do their offspring. At least, that's my position.
